Question:
Will AFDDs change electricians’ working practices in terms of having to test the AFDD? Will they have to do anything different with that particular device?
Mike Cash – Head of Marketing at Electrium
Answer:
With Electrium AFDDs it's just like installing an RCBO. Electrium Arc fault detection devices are combined with an integral RCBO.
The AFDDs fits onto the consumer unit busbar and connects in exactly the same way as an RCBO. The AFDD with integral RCBO only takes up 1 way so there's no need for installers to use larger or special consumer units.
The outgoing circuit cables, Live & Neutral, are connected to the device in the same way as connecting an RCBO. The CPC cable is connected to the earth bar in the same way as it is for an RCBO.
Testing the circuit before fitting the AFDD device is the same, and testing of an Electrium AFDD during initial verification includes the tests that would be done for an RCBO.
